On Tuesday 24 March, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) published their final report following their investigation into the UK’s veterinary market.

PDSA, the UK’s leading veterinary charity, which provides free and low-cost vet care across Pet Hospitals throughout the UK has welcomed the report, in particular the exemption from some of the measures for charitable veterinary services.

PDSA Chief Veterinary Advisor, Steve Howard, said:

“We welcome the outcomes of the CMA investigation into the veterinary sector, which aim to make veterinary care more accessible, transparent and affordable for pet owners.

After raising concerns that some of the proposed remedies could impact on our ability to deliver charitable care, and sharing our recommendations, we’re pleased to see these have been taken on board and incorporated into the final outcome, which sees charities providing small animal veterinary services exempt from the CMA requirements. This will save charities like us time, and vital limited funds, so that our resource is focused on providing support to the people and pets who need us the most.”

PDSA is dedicated to supporting people and their pets during difficult times. We believe that every pet deserves a happy and healthy life. Every year, the charity provides over two million veterinary treatments and supports over six million people with expert pet care advice.
