VetSkill is delighted to announce the expansion of its Level 4 Animal Medicines Advisors (SQP) suite, with the launch of two new qualifications covering Equine and Farm Animal species groups. These new qualifications build on the success of VetSkill’s established VTEC Level 4 Award for Animal Medicines Advisors (SQP – Companion Animal).

VetSkill has offered its Companion Animal SQP qualification since January 2019, providing learners with the necessary competencies, knowledge and understanding to prescribe and supply veterinary medicine classes POM-VPS and/or NFA-VPS to companion animals (cat, dog, rabbit and ferret).

From 2026, learners and employers will also benefit from the introduction of the following qualifications:

Learners completing these qualifications will be able to safely and appropriately prescribe, supply and dispense veterinary medicine classes POM-VPS and/or NFA-VPS to animals within the relevant species groups. For the farm animal qualification, this includes cattle, sheep, goats and pigs.

As with the companion animal qualification, learners will develop a broad understanding of animal health and disease, gain the skills to identify parasite infestations, and select appropriate medicines to prescribe. They will be able to provide advice on the safe use, handling, administration and disposal of all relevant medicines.

Successful learners will also be automatically entered onto the VetSkill SQP Register, supporting professional recognition and compliance within the sector.

Leanne Ashford, Qualifications Manager at VetSkill, celebrates the new additions:

“It is fantastic to see the Animal Medicines Advisor (SQP) qualification suite expand to include equine and farm animal species. This suite of qualifications complements the VMD-approved SQP Register we hold, and it will be exciting to see VetSkill learners start to enter the register from these qualification routes".

These qualifications are now available for approved VetSkill centres to deliver.
