This is a highly practical two-day course looking at the theory, decision making and execution of advanced fracture repair, joint injury and instability as well as the use of corrective osteotomies to restore limb alignment and joint function. We’ll cover joint disease and consider various therapies including newer opinions for its treatment, regenerative medicine and non-surgical therapies.
The practical sessions will involve the approach to most joints with a view to exploration, reduction and stabilisation of both minor and major joints. We’ll examine salvage procedures like arthrodesis and then evaluate our repairs, discussing the strengths and weaknesses of each. This will help anticipate potential complications, allowing us to modify outcomes and improve future cases.
This course is aimed at veterinary surgeons who are happy with basic fracture repair and want to increase their skills. However, any vets with a grasp of orthopaedics will be able to handle the techniques and skills to be covered in this course, and the majority of them are achievable in a well-appointed practice situation by a well-informed veterinarian.
Topics to be covered include:
Joint injury and instability including ligament reconstruction, reduction and stabilisation
Arthrodesis
Corrective osteotomies
Advanced fracture repair including pelvic fractures
This day with Turlough O’Neill is a highly practical advanced orthopaedic course designed for delegates who wish to progress their skills from basic fracture repair.
