Diabetes mellitus is a common endocrinopathy in cats, but it can be challenging to manage. Given the rise in obesity in this species it may also become more prevalent, so this course is aimed at giving you confidence to both manage straightforward and complex cases. Cats often don’t read the textbooks when it comes to this condition so we will discuss real life scenarios and the background behind those difficult to manage cases.
Topics to be covered include:
Diagnosis of diabetes: are you sure it isn’t stress?
Which insulin is first choice and what is the evidence?
How do I monitor the feline diabetic: is continuous glucose monitoring really worth it?
Complicated diabetes: Acromegaly, DKA, the cat that needs steroids, what about the one with pancreatitis?
