Non-technical skills are important in optimising patient outcome, as well as improving the well-being of our veterinary team. There is a growing awareness that by developing these skills, which include communication, teamwork, leadership, situation awareness and decision making, we can minimise medical errors, reduce stress levels and work towards providing better patient care. All of which is now more important than ever with constantly increasing practice workloads.
This course will provide you with a toolkit to enhance your practice, no matter what your interest is, including emergency and critical care, surgery, anaesthesia or even practice management. This is an interactive course which will include lectures, reading materials, discussion groups and simulated scenarios to apply into practice.
Topics to be covered include:
Why do medical errors occur and how to prevent them
Decision-making, teamwork and communication skills
Identifying what non-technical skills are going to benefit you and your team
How to develop these skills and bring them into practice
The importance of debriefing
