This flexi CPD series on pain management leads through why pain relief is so important, the pain pathway, multimodal analgesic plans, constant rate infusions, local anaesthesia blocks, the impact of analgesia on anaesthesia, pain assessment methods and ends with some surgical case examples. The tutorials are focussed on the surgical candidate but also give information to provide analgesic considerations for the conscious patient. You will finish this course understanding how and why to assess, consider, plan and re-assess your patient to provide the best method of analgesia for them.

Module 2: Systemic Analgesia
Drug choices – NSAIDs, opioids, paracetamol, local anaesthetics, alpha 2 agonists, NMDA antagonists

Module 3: Local Analgesia
Local anaesthetic agents
Local blocks
Epidurals
Assessment of pain responses

Module 4: Clinical Cases
Analgesia considerations in common surgeries: Neutering, Dentistry, Foreign body removal / exploratory laparotomy, GDV, Caesarean section, Enucleation, Forelimb and hindlimb surgery
