Pregnancy diagnosis is a common task equine veterinary surgeons are asked to perform. The diagnosis is required to be performed at an early stage of the pregnancy. Multiple ovulations and consequently mares with twin pregnancies occur commonly in mares. Early pregnancy failure is a significant cause of reduced fertility in mares.

Dr Jonathan Pycock B.Vet.Med., Ph.D, D.E.S.M., M.R.C.V.S<br /> <br /> Jon Pycock has published many papers and several books and book chapters on a variety of equine reproductive topics and recently was one of the editors of the major equine text ‘Current Therapy in Equine Reproduction’.<br /> <br /> Jon has lectured at meetings and given courses all over the world to both veterinary surgeons and breeders.<br /> <br /> He delivers around 65 days of Continuing Education annually both within the UK and overseas.<br /> <br /> In 2011 he was a speaker at 68 days of equine CPD in ten different countries ranging from Argentina to Australia.<br /> <br /> His main interests include ultrasonography, breeding the problem mare and artificial insemination.<br /> <br /> He is actively involved in researching mechanisms of uterine clearance and what determines susceptibility to endometritis. Currently he is evaluating use of Doppler ultrasound in ovulation failure and early pregnancy loss in mares.
