About this course
Understanding the reasons for using a renal diet in feline chronic kidney disease and how new biomarkers may enhance our ability to decide when to start and how to modify dietary intervention.

This webinar will explore the current recommendations for when to use a renal diet in conjunction with the IRIS staging system. It will explore the pathophysiology and use available evidence base to demonstrate where these recommendations have originated from. It includes an introduction to the new biomarker fibroblast growth factor 23 which is being developed for clinical use as a biomarker of CKD-mineral and bone disorder and now forms part of the IRIS recommendations for dietary decision making in cats with CKD. Case examples will be used throughout the webinar to provide demonstration of how the science can be applied to clinical cases.

Why do this course
This lecture is aimed at veterinary surgeons with a keen interest in internal or feline medicine, certificate candidates or advanced practitioners who are interested to learn more about the reasons why we use renal diets, to learn about the new biomarker FGF23 and how this may be used in practice to guide decision making around the use of renal diets.
