Are your intervals lacking confidence? Do you value the P? Do stats put you off interpreting and contributing to journal discussions?

There is growing interest in, increased awareness of, and improved accessibility to published veterinary articles. When reading articles (and during journal club sessions) there is a need to critically appraise these articles. Many people take literature at face value, gloss over statistical limitations of study design and don’t question an article’s relevance. This course will cover the statistics required to interpret common study formats. It will help you to demystify journal articles, to better understand the literature you read, and be able to discuss study methods with confidence with colleagues.

This will all happen in a very informal setting in webinar format each week, with discussion forums and ‘homework’ to practice and solidify your knowledge. These will not be lectures of statistical tests found in traditional statistics courses, but rather we will review articles and discuss the statistical tests mentioned in more detail, so they are discussed in their proper context and the relevance and appropriateness of the statistical tests used make better sense.

Why do this course?
Delegates will be guided through common statistics used in journal articles. As a group we will discuss the situations in which statistical tests are actually necessary (often they are not!), how to perform common statistics, and how to interpret them when they are used. There will be additional reading, homework to put your knowledge into practice, and forums to discuss in your own time also.
