About us
We are a small, friendly diagnostic laboratory, and place a strong emphasis on client care and service quality. We are UKAS-accredited to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard, and provide diagnostic services in clinical pathology, microbiology and molecular biology. Our laboratory is staffed by highly trained and experienced biomedical scientists, two veterinary clinical pathologists, an Internal Medicine Specialist, and an ECVM Diplomate. Our clients are predominantly first opinion companion animal clinics, and the workload is interesting and varied.
We are continually developing our diagnostic service; our new Molecular Biology service started last summer, and we are introducing a new LIMS system this summer.
The role
We are seeking a Veterinary Laboratory Assistant to join our team on a full time, permanent basis.
Our Lab is currently expanding and with that comes exciting opportunities for individuals to grow with us.
Key accountabilities
- Specimen reception: open and accurately record contents, sort specimens into appropriate sections
- Prepare diagnostic specimens for testing
- Store specimens appropriately
- Data entry: accurate and prompt entry of information into LIMS.
- Participate in the management of referral specimens and the input of returned results, maintaining accurate logs of specimens
- Document management: scanning, filing and shredding in line with our GDPR commitments
- Participate in the timely supply of test materials to clients
- Receive laboratory deliveries; contribute to stock control
- Handle incoming telephone calls appropriately, answer queries relating to specimens
- Participate in maintaining the Quality Standards within the department; participate in audits as required
- Maintain a tidy and clean working environment
- Comply with laboratory health and safety procedures

Experience
- A minimum of 12 months’ experience working in the healthcare sector
- Undergraduate degree in a biomedical science or a relevant subject
- Working knowledge of health and safety procedures
- Practical experience of working with Microsoft applications is essential, especially MS Excel
