This is an excellent opportunity for any small, equine, or large animal vet looking for something unique. The Isle of Man is a UNESCO biosphere reserve, home to Manx cats, four-horned Loaghtan sheep, wild wallabies, Manx shearwaters, basking sharks, dolphins, and seals.
This practise is Gold ISFM accredited and has a skilled team of 5 vets, each with special interests in surgery, ophthalmology, ultrasound, dentistry, and medicine, as well as a visiting cardiologist.
The position will begin as soon as possible and will last until the end of March 2023, or longer. If necessary, the practice can provide accommodation and a car. You should also be willing to do OOH.
A typical consult day would consist of a series of 2-hour blocks for routines, non-routines, and emergencies (on a very well managed diary). Standard consults or phone calls are 15 minutes. 'Operation days' are also scheduled for each vet. These 'Operation days' allow the vets to focus on their areas of expertise, which include surgery, ultrasound, dentistry, and finishes with evening surgery. They believe in allocating work based on people's interests and strengths, so they are flexible in how each vet's week is structured.
The working week is flexible but normally consists of 4 days Monday to Friday (8.30am - 6.30pm) plus on call duties.
OOH is supported by RVNS. All inpatient checks are taken care of by their highly trained nurses. There is a vet WhatsApp group for support. The OOH phone has a message advising clients that is the service is for life threatening emergencies only and explains the cost for this service prior to being transferred to the duty vet.
