Summer Locum Veterinary Surgeon – Sweden

We’re recruiting two experienced Locum Veterinary Surgeons to join a large, well-equipped small animal hospital in Central Sweden for the summer period, covering an upcoming departure within the team. This is a great opportunity for confident, self-sufficient vets looking for a varied caseload, strong nursing support, and a genuinely inclusive, international working environment.

Dates available:

4th May – 25th July

1st June – 7th August

The role

40 hours per week across 5 days

Mixed shift pattern:

7:30am–4:30pm

8:00am–5:00pm

4:00pm–12:00am

Evening shifts always roll into on-call from 12:00am–7:30am

On-call is extremely quiet – nurses manage inpatients and only contact vets in genuine emergencies

1:6 Saturdays (sole charge, 7:30am–4:30pm)

Closed Sundays with no on-call

Clinical exposure

Routine soft tissue surgery plus a solid ECC caseload

Regular foreign bodies, C-sections, GDVs, pyometra cases

30-minute consultation slots

Sole charge required on evenings, Saturdays and on-call

Team & support

7-vet team supported by 30–35 nurses (exceptionally high nurse-to-vet ratio)

Strong emphasis on teamwork and clinical standards

Weekly in-house training/meetings (Wednesday mornings) – locums fully included

Locums treated the same as permanent staff, including social events and team activities

Very international team with clinicians from a wide range of backgrounds

Additional benefits

Practice transport provided

Well-structured rota with sensible limits on consecutive evening shifts

Supportive, progressive hospital environment

Candidate requirements

Confident, experienced small animal vet

Comfortable working sole charge when required

Able to manage ECC cases independently

Happy to work within a varied shift rota

If you’re looking for a summer locum role abroad with excellent clinical exposure, strong nursing support, and a genuinely welcoming team culture, this is well worth a conversation.
