My client in East London is seeking an individual to take the reins as Head Nurse within a large, busy 24-hour veterinary hospital. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a pivotal leadership position and really make the role your own.
As a key member of the hospital leadership team, you will work alongside the hospital manager and head vet to deliver operational excellence, outstanding patient care, and vital support to a large and varied nursing team.
This role is ideal for an experienced RVN with a proven track record in a referral or high-volume hospital environment. You may already be in a head nurse role, or you might be a highly experienced RVN with strong natural leadership skills, now ready to progress into an official management position.
You will collaborate with two Deputy Head Nurses and five Senior Nurses, providing both clinical and people leadership across the RVN, SVN and VCA teams. Leadership training will be provided to support you in this next step of your career.
Key responsibilities
Your accountabilities will include (but are not limited to):
Scheduling nursing and VCA team meetings
Setting and maintaining clinical standards of care in collaboration with senior colleagues
Overseeing and supporting in-house training delivered by vets and nurses
Working clinical shifts across various hospital roles (wards, theatre, charge nurse duties etc.)
Recruitment, onboarding, and induction of RVNs, SVNs and VCAs (with administrative support provided)
Managing the nurse rota in collaboration with the hospital manager and administrator
Supporting and developing staff with additional responsibilities to achieve expected standards
Working with the leadership team to improve and streamline patient journeys across the hospital
Delivering performance reviews and maintaining a clear reporting structure
Managing TOIL, overtime, and on-the-day sickness cover
They are looking for someone who is a confident, engaging RVN who brings fresh ideas, positivity, and strong leadership to the team. This is a role where you can shape the position and drive positive change.
Currently, the balance of responsibilities is approximately 75% administration and management with 25% clinical duties, though this can vary depending on hospital needs.
This is a truly exciting opportunity for an ambitious RVN to take on a leadership challenge within a supportive, progressive hospital environment.
