Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Head Nurse to join a busy and expanding nursing team in the Portsmouth area. This role is ideal for an experienced RVN who enjoys leadership responsibility while remaining hands-on clinically, and who is motivated by delivering consistently high standards of patient care and client service.
Working closely with the Head Nurse, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day clinical operations of the practice, helping to drive efficiency, governance, and continuous improvement across nursing activities. This is a varied, rewarding position within a supportive and forward-thinking team environment.
The Role
- Support the Head Nurse with clinical leadership and team coordination
- Maintain high standards of patient care, compliance, and clinical governance
- Hands-on nursing across consultations, inpatient care, and theatre
- Encourage a positive team culture and support the development of colleagues
- Contribute ideas to improve workflows and clinical standards
Working Pattern
- Full-time role, typically 40 hours over 4 days
- 9-hour shifts with a mix of consulting, surgical, and inpatient duties
- 1-in-4 weekend rota
- Duty nights included on a rotational basis
- Flexible working options available and open to discussion
