Fivelands Veterinary Centre

Fivelands Veterinary Centre have a fantastic opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their team temporarily to cover maternity leave. This is a varied role, and no two days are the same! We have a large surgical caseload; busy kennel wards and our nurse clinics are always popular. We split the nursing team into inpatient care, theatre, and consultations. Our nurses are then responsible for their areas and in charge of their patients and time management.
Inpatient Nurse: Caring for all hospitalised inpatients, placing IV catheters, taking pre-op blood, and getting the patient ready for their procedure pre-operatively. They pain score patients post-op and provide extra analgesia as necessary, arrange discharge appointments and liaise with clients.
Surgical Nurse: Our nurses get plenty of opportunity to scrub into the orthopaedic operations etc, they monitor the anaesthetics, take x-rays, and ensure equipment is cleaned and stored safely.
Consult Nurse: Our nurses run a large variety of nurse consults (laser, post-op checks, diabetic clinics, weight clinics, blood pressure etc) prepare repeat prescriptions and help the vets in consults.
This is a part-time position working 23 hours across 3 days per week, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. We can offer flexibility on shifts between the hours of 8 am – 7:30 pm. You will have a 1:5 share in the Saturday rota working 8:30 am – 6 pm. No out of hours. The salary for this role is up to £15,525 pro-rata depending on experience.
We are a large practice in south Birmingham, a 10-minute drive from the city, with some nice rural dog walks nearby. We are lucky to have a large carpark on the front, and a staff carpark at the back, but we are based on the main bus route which stops outside the practice for those who prefer to use public transport. We have 4 consult rooms, a separate dog and cat ward, separate isolation wards, a lab, a digital x-ray and bucky table, a 25watt laser and a visiting physiotherapist.
About the Team and Culture
We have a great team between the 3 branches, but our Moseley team is the biggest. We have 8 Veterinary surgeons (some spend time at the branches), 5 registered veterinary nurses, 3 students about to sit their OSCEs and 4 students, veterinary nurses. 3, soon to be 4 receptionists who cover reception all day, and a practice manager. 2 of our nurses have feline nursing certificates, and 1 vet has a certificate in feline medicine. We work closely with a greyhound charity to get the dogs ready for rehoming.
We are looking for an RVN who has experience in a busy practice. Ideally, someone who is up for a challenge embraces new ideas and has a wealth of knowledge to share.
