Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon – Independent – Berkshire
Salary: £45,000 – £70,000 DOE | 4 or 4.5-day week | Full-time, Permanent
✨ An established independent veterinary practice based in Berkshire is looking to recruit an experienced small animal vet to join their friendly, five-vet team.
GVC is working with a well-respected independent group seeking a confident and compassionate Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys a true mix of consulting and surgery. With flexible rotas, excellent facilities and strong support for professional development, this is an outstanding opportunity for a vet looking to progress within an independent setting.
The Practice
This practice is an RCVS-accredited Small Animal General Practice which is also partnered with a local college for veterinary nurse training and offers excellent facilities including:
In-house laboratories with Idexx analysers
Digital radiography
New ultrasound machines and endoscopy
ECG and blood pressure monitoring
Microscopy and urine analysis
EZVet Pro system
Dedicated nurse consults and cat-only appointments
You’ll be joining a supportive clinical team of 5 vets, 3 RVNs, 3 SVNs and 2 PCAs, alongside experienced non-clinical staff. This role has been created due to continued practice growth and to allow additional support for developing vets.
The Role
A varied, stimulating small animal position working across branches, with responsibilities including:
Delivering high-quality care across consultations and surgery
Working up medical and surgical cases
Performing routine and more complex procedures
Supporting and mentoring junior vets
Occasional sole charge at branch level (with support always available)
Developing clinical interests and certificates
Potential opportunity to lead and develop one of the branch surgeries
Hours & Salary
Full-time, permanent position
Flexible 4 or 4.5-day week
Shared Saturday morning rota
No overnight OOH (covered by Vets Now)
Salary: £45,000–£70,000 DOE

About You
The ideal candidate will:
Be an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon with 3+ years UK exp
Comfortable with a mix of consulting and operating
Happy with occasional sole charge
Enjoy mentoring junior colleagues
Keen to pursue a certificate or develop a special interest
Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle
