Who They Are
This is a large, purpose‑built 24‑hour emergency and referral veterinary hospital located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, supporting pets and veterinary teams across Atlantic Canada. The hospital delivers a full spectrum of specialist services including surgery, internal medicine, neurology, critical care, ophthalmology, anaesthesia, dermatology, radiology, and exotic animal medicine.
The 17,000+ sq ft facility houses advanced diagnostic equipment such as CT, MRI, C‑arm fluoroscopy, ultrasound, endoscopy, and laparoscopy, alongside sterile theatres, piped gases throughout, an on‑site ICU, and access to regional learning partnerships. The wider team exceeds 120 clinical and operational staff, supported by robust administrative and clinical governance systems.

What You’ll Do
This is a senior operational leadership role with responsibility for the performance, culture, and day‑to‑day operations of a busy emergency and referral hospital.
Operational Leadership
- Oversee administrative workflows, operational systems, and hospital‑wide processes.
- Lead strategic planning, implementing business priorities across clinical and non‑clinical teams.
- Manage financial performance, including labour planning, cost of sales, fee structures, and revenue optimisation.
- Monitor KPIs, reporting, SOP compliance, and accreditation requirements, ensuring regulatory obligations are met.
- Collaborate with department leads to prioritise facility improvements, equipment investment, and IT needs.
People Leadership
- Support, coach, and mentor team members, facilitating professional development, performance reviews, and skill advancement.
- Drive a culture of teamwork, high morale, accountability, and constructive communication.
- Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, workforce planning, and retention strategies.
- Foster a workplace known for being inclusive, supportive, and aligned with organisational values.
- Support peer‑to‑peer coaching and cross‑team collaboration within the hospital and wider network.
Client and Patient Care Systems
- Work with clinical leaders to ensure exceptional client service, patient care pathways, and service-level consistency.
- Support expansion of clinical services and enhancement of the patient experience.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to support CE, mentorship, and continuous learning opportunities.
Business Strategy
- Lead the development of annual budgets, multi‑year business plans, and operational forecasts.
- Use hospital data systems to analyse performance and implement improvement actions.
- Facilitate regular strategy meetings and contribute to organisation‑wide planning as required.
