True ECC exposure. 24 hour hospital support. Flexible night rota.
If Nights Are Where You Do Your Best Work
If you thrive when the practice is quieter, the cases are more complex, and your decisions genuinely change outcomes, this role is worth your attention. Especially if you want proper ECC medicine, strong clinical back up, and the reassurance that you are never working in isolation.
The Opportunity
We are working with a not for profit veterinary organisation in Ellesmere Port, that has built something refreshingly different. Their mission is simple but powerful: high quality veterinary care should be accessible and affordable, no matter the time of day. That belief underpins everything they do, including their 24 hour hospital service.
This night vet role sits at the heart of their emergency and inpatient care. You will manage a varied ECC caseload overnight while overseeing hospitalised patients, supported by an experienced and fully staffed night nursing team. This is not lone working. Multiple hospitals operate 24 hours within the group, so clinical discussion and second opinions are always available.
If you enjoy being trusted to make decisions, value collaboration, and want to work somewhere that prioritises patient care over profit, this environment is designed to let you practise at your best.
Why This Role Is Different
Proper ECC, Not Just Out of Hours
You will see a genuine mix of emergency presentations and complex inpatient cases. The hospital is equipped with ultrasound, digital radiography and CT, allowing you to investigate and treat thoroughly rather than stabilise and refer.
Experienced Overnight Support
You are supported by a skilled night nursing team who are used to ECC workflows. This allows you to focus on clinical decision making rather than firefighting alone.
Specialist Knowledge on Hand
The wider veterinary team includes certificate holders in surgery, internal medicine and ophthalmology. Day to night handovers are structured, and collaborative case discussion is actively encouraged.
Flexibility Built Around You
The standard shift runs from 18:30 to 07:30, on a 7 on, 14 off rota, averaging 31.1 hours per week. There is genuine openness to discussing rota options to fit life outside of work.
Your Journey Here
In Your First Month
You will settle into the hospital systems, get to know the nursing team, and build confidence with overnight workflows and case handovers. Support is close by while you find your feet.
By Three Months
You will be confidently managing the overnight ECC caseload, leading inpatient care through the night, and contributing to clinical discussions across the wider hospital network.
By Six Months
You will be a trusted night clinician, comfortable with complex decision making, and supported to pursue further ECC development, including funded CPD up to diploma level if that aligns with your goals.
