Overview
An excellent opportunity has become available for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join a progressive independent veterinary practice in Cheshire. This role offers the chance to work within a well-equipped hospital environment alongside an experienced and supportive clinical team, providing a high standard of first-opinion care.

The Practice
This independent small animal practice operates across two modern sites, including an RCVS-accredited small animal hospital and a purpose-built branch practice. The hospital is also a nurse training practice and a Gold Cat Friendly Clinic, reflecting its commitment to high clinical standards.
The hospital facilities include:
- Two fully equipped operating theatres
- Dedicated dental suite with dental radiography
- In-house laboratory with IDEXX blood and urinalysis machines (including Sedivue)
- EPOC blood analysis machine
- Digital radiography (DR)
- High-quality ultrasound
- Video endoscopy and laparoscopy
- The second site provides the same high-quality first-opinion services, with overnight inpatients transferred to the hospital where appropriate.
The Team
You’ll be joining a highly experienced and collaborative team that includes:
- 8 Veterinary Surgeons
- Certificate holders in Anaesthesia, Emergency & Critical Care, and Medicine
- A Diplomate Orthopaedic Surgeon
- Visiting specialists in Soft Tissue Surgery, Cardiology, and Diagnostic Imaging
- 8 Registered Veterinary Nurses and 2 Student Nurses, led by a DipAVN with ECC certificate holders
- A dedicated and experienced front-of-house support team
- The practice fosters a genuinely supportive culture where vets, nurses, and reception staff work closely together to deliver outstanding patient care.
The Role
The practice is looking for a motivated and compassionate Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys delivering a high-quality first-opinion service.
- Key responsibilities include:
- Small animal consultations and routine surgical procedures
- Working collaboratively with the wider clinical team
- Providing high-quality patient and client care
- Participating in inpatient care and case management
- Supporting and contributing to a positive team culture
- The role offers strong support for professional development, with postgraduate qualifications actively encouraged.
Working Pattern
The rota is designed to support a healthy work-life balance:
- 4-day working week
- 1 in 8 weekends (Saturday & Sunday, 8:00am – 5:00pm)
- 2 days off in lieu following a weekend worked
- Dedicated out-of-hours provider for emergency cover
- The hospital is staffed 24/7 by RVNs, with vets sharing responsibility for inpatients (1:8 nights)
Salary & Benefits
