East Cornwall, Cornwall, United Kingdom
brand‑new small animal branch is opening in East Cornwall in Autumn 2026, and we are looking for an exceptional Veterinary Surgeon to lead it from day one. This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of a new site, shape how it launches, and build a team and client base around your standards, values and leadership.
The Practice This new branch will open with a lean, efficient team of one vet, one nurse and one receptionist, supported by additional staff from nearby branches when needed. Significant investment is being made into marketing, facilities and community engagement to ensure rapid growth. The long‑term plan is for the branch to expand into a multi‑vet site as caseload increases.
You will be supported by a wider independent mixed‑practice group with established companion animal, farm and equine departments, as well as advanced equipment across the network including CT, laparoscopy and arthroscopy.
The Role This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to a confident, experienced all‑rounder who enjoys responsibility, autonomy and the challenge of building something new.
You will:
- Lead the clinical and operational development of the new branch
- Work confidently in sole charge during the early phase
- Deliver high‑quality first‑opinion medicine and surgery
- Provide excellent client care and communication
- Help shape workflows, standards and ways of working
- Recruit, mentor and develop the future branch team
- Drive the growth and success of the practice
This role offers the responsibility and progression of running a practice without the financial risk of ownership.
Working Pattern
- Four‑day week, 9am–6pm
- 1 in 7 weeknights and weekends on the out‑of‑hours rota (covered at a nearby branch with nurses on site 24/7)
- OOH shifts are generally quiet, with next‑day cover provided when needed
- Five weeks’ holiday plus bank holidays and your birthday off
- Full support for CPD up to certificate level
Salary & Benefits
- Base salary £65,000–£80,000 depending on experience
- Annual performance‑based bonus linked to fair, achievable clinical and financial targets
- Relocation bonus available
- Private healthcare
- Funded professional fees
- Contributory pension
- Career progression opportunities
- Supportive, experienced wider team
- Access to advanced equipment across the group
- Strong social culture and outdoor lifestyle opportunities
About the Area
East Cornwall offers an excellent lifestyle with easy access to the coast, moors and countryside, while being close to Plymouth for urban amenities. The working pattern is designed to allow you to enjoy the outdoors, whether that’s surfing, sailing, trail running, horse‑riding or exploring the South West.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 5 years’ experience
- Strong all‑round GP skills
- Comfortable with sole charge
- High clinical standards and excellent client care
- Confident, proactive and motivated
- Keen to take ownership and drive a new branch forward
- Enjoys leadership and building a team
If you’re looking for responsibility, progression and the chance to shape a new practice from the ground up, we’d love to hear from you.
