Experienced Veterinary Surgeon
Medicine, diagnostic imaging and a varied clinical caseload
Salary up to £74,000 | Four-day working week | NW11, Finchley Road
Love getting to the bottom of a challenging medical case? Want access to excellent diagnostic facilities, an interesting caseload and a supportive team, without working in a 24-hour hospital?
We’d love to hear from you.
We’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our thriving, three-vet practice on Finchley Road, NW11.
Ideally, you’ll have a particular interest in internal medicine, diagnostic investigations and ultrasonography. We’re open to a candidate who wants to practise medicine exclusively or enjoys a varied clinical role including surgery; there’s plenty of scope to do both.
We’re interested in finding a vet who enjoys clinical problem-solving, takes pride in providing excellent patient care and wants to be part of a collaborative team.
About our practice
Our practice started as a startup in 2019 and has grown into a busy, established clinic with a loyal client base and a rewarding, varied caseload.
Co-owned with Medivet, the practice is led by a Branch Partner with over 30 years of veterinary experience. We’ve built a clinic where clinical standards, continuity of care and strong relationships with clients really matter.
Although we’re a first-opinion practice, the nature of our caseload and the size of our team give us something of a hospital feel. We see a high volume of medical work-ups, complex cases and second opinions, giving our vets the opportunity to investigate challenging presentations and follow cases through.
The difference? We’re not open overnight, so you can enjoy a stimulating clinical role without the demands of working in a 24-hour hospital.
For cases requiring facilities or procedures beyond our capabilities, we have access to Medivet’s Hendon 24-Hour Hospital and its wider diagnostic and referral services.
An interest in internal medicine would be particularly welcome, but we also want to hear from vets who enjoy surgery and the variety of general practice.
Facilities and diagnostics
We have invested in the equipment needed to investigate and manage a rewarding medical caseload, including:
• A MyLab Fox ultrasound machine.
• Full dental equipment, including dental radiography.
• Up-to-date in-house laboratory and patient-monitoring equipment.
• Access to CT and MRI facilities.
• Access to endoscopic and laparoscopic equipment through our wider clinical facilities.
This combination offers opportunities to investigate complex cases and pursue appropriate diagnostic options, with access to additional facilities when needed.
Who we’re looking for
You’ll be a qualified MRCVS with at least four years’ post-qualification experience and a genuine interest in clinical medicine.
Ideally, you’ll have:
• Confidence in managing medical cases and planning diagnostic work-ups.
• An interest in ultrasonography and diagnostic imaging; enhanced ultrasound skills would be a real advantage.
• Good clinical judgement and a methodical approach to challenging cases.
• Excellent communication skills and a commitment to client care.
• A collaborative approach and a desire to contribute to a supportive team.
We’re not looking for someone who ticks every box. We’d rather meet a good clinician with enthusiasm, sound judgement and a genuine interest in developing their skills.
Your working week
This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week, worked over four days.
The rota includes either:
• One full weekend in six at Hendon 24-Hour Hospital; or
• One Saturday in three on a two-clinic run.
Vets share bank holiday and on-call duties, typically involving two to three bank holiday shifts and two to three weeks of on-call per year.
Salary and benefits
Salary up to £74,000 per year, depending on experience and clinical skills.
As part of Medivet, you’ll also have access to a comprehensive benefits package, including:
Health and wellbeing
• Private Medical Insurance and Health Cash Plan from day one.
• 24/7 counselling and wellbeing support.
• Life Assurance at three times your salary.
Time off
• Five weeks’ annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with length of service.
• An additional paid ‘Day for You’.
Clinical development
• £1,500 annual CPD allowance plus three days’ paid CPD leave.
• Access to Clinical Communities, internal CPD and Medivet’s 24-hour hospitals.
• Funded certificates and internal career pathways.
Additional benefits
• RCVS, VDS and BVA fees paid.
• Relocation support and visa sponsorship available.
• Sabbatical options based on length of service.
• Cycle to Work scheme, season ticket loans and discounts on Medivet products and services.
Location
We’re based on Finchley Road, NW11, in a bright, spacious clinic with free on-street parking and good transport links.
Come and meet us
Choosing your next veterinary role is about more than a job title or a rota. It’s about the cases you’ll see, the colleagues you’ll work with and whether you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy and develop your clinical interests.
If you’re an experienced vet who enjoys investigating challenging cases, values good clinical facilities and wants to remain involved in a varied caseload, we’d love to meet you.
Come and see the practice, meet the team and have an informal chat about what you’re looking for in your next role.
We’d be delighted to show you what we’ve built and explore what you could bring to the practice.
