Veterinary Surgeon
A varied clinical role with medicine, surgery and room to develop
Looking for a veterinary role where you can broaden your experience, develop your confidence and enjoy being a vet?
We’d love to meet you.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon to join our thriving, three-vet practice on Finchley Road, NW11.
This is an opportunity for a vet who enjoys variety: consulting, investigating medical cases, caring for inpatients and getting involved in surgery. You might already be confident in some areas and keen to develop in others. What matters most is that you enjoy good clinical work, care about your patients and want to be part of a team that takes pride in what it does.
Whether you’re a few years into your career or an experienced general practitioner looking for a fresh environment, we’d be interested in hearing from you.
Get involved in the full range of general practice
Our practice started as a startup in 2019 and has grown into a busy, established clinic with a loyal client base and a varied caseload.
Co-owned with Medivet, the practice is led by a Branch Partner with over 30 years of veterinary experience. We have built a clinic that combines the familiarity and continuity of first-opinion practice with a caseload that offers plenty of clinical interest.
You’ll have the opportunity to be involved in:
- First-opinion consultations and ongoing client care.
- Medical investigations and diagnostic work-ups.
- The assessment, treatment and monitoring of inpatients.
- Routine surgery and the development of your surgical skills.
- Diagnostic imaging and the use of our in-house equipment.
- Working up cases, discussing treatment options and following patients through their care.
We want you to enjoy the variety of general practice while continuing to develop as a clinician.
A supportive team and an interesting caseload
We’re a three-vet practice, with a wider team of around 10–11 people on many days.
Our caseload includes a substantial amount of medical work, investigations and second opinions, so there’s plenty to think about beyond routine consultations.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys working collaboratively, is happy to ask questions and values learning from colleagues. You’ll be joining a practice led by a vet with decades of experience, alongside a team that understands the importance of good communication, sound clinical judgement and continuity of care.
We also have access to Medivet’s Hendon 24-Hour Hospital for cases requiring facilities or procedures beyond what we can offer in-house.
The practice isn’t open overnight, giving you the opportunity to enjoy a varied and clinically rewarding role without working in a 24-hour hospital environment.
Facilities you’ll enjoy working with
Our bright, spacious clinic is equipped with:
- A MyLab Fox ultrasound machine.
- Full dental equipment, including dental radiography.
- Up-to-date in-house laboratory and patient-monitoring equipment.
These facilities support our medical caseload and provide opportunities to build confidence in diagnostics and patient management.
Who would suit this role?
You’ll be a qualified MRCVS who enjoys general practice and wants to provide excellent care to patients and clients.
You might be:
- A vet with one or two years’ experience who wants to broaden your clinical skills.
- A developing general practitioner who would like greater exposure to medical cases and surgery.
- An experienced vet who enjoys a varied caseload and being part of a close-knit team.
We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, conscientious and keen to learn, with a thoughtful approach to clinical decision-making and good communication skills.
You don’t have to be an expert in everything. We value curiosity, sound judgement, a willingness to seek advice when needed and the desire to keep improving.
Working pattern
This is a full-time role of 40 hours per week, worked over four days.
The rota includes either:
- One full weekend in six at Hendon 24-Hour Hospital; or
- One Saturday in three on a two-clinic run.
Vets share bank holiday and on-call duties, typically involving two to three bank holiday shifts and two to three weeks of on-call per year.
We’re happy to talk through the rota and explain the arrangements before you decide whether the role is right for you.
Salary and benefits
Salary will depend on experience and clinical skills.
The range would be £52000- £68000
As part of Medivet, you’ll have access to a comprehensive benefits package, including:
Health and wellbeing
- Private Medical Insurance and Health Cash Plan from day one.
- 24/7 counselling and wellbeing support.
- Life Assurance at three times your salary
Time off
- Five weeks’ annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with length of service.
- An additional paid ‘Day for You’.
Learning and development
- £1,500 annual CPD allowance plus three days’ paid CPD leave.
- Access to Clinical Communities and internal CPD.
- Funded certificates and internal career pathways.
Additional benefits
- RCVS, VDS and BVA fees paid.
- Relocation support and visa sponsorship available.
- Sabbatical options based on length of service.
- Cycle to Work scheme, season ticket loans and discounts on Medivet products and services.
Location
We’re based on Finchley Road, NW11, with free on-street parking and good transport links.
