Summer Aiken

Whalley Range, Manchester, United Kingdom

We are currently seeking Veterinary Surgeon to join our DAY/NIGHT TEAM here at Ashleigh Vets.

Ashleigh vets has been proudly caring for the pets of south Manchester for the last 50 years and is fortunate to have a lovely client base and good reputation. With easy access to airports, motorways and city centre it’s an ideal location. Well equipped with usual toys (digital xrays, video endoscope, ultrasound) we can cater for most patient’s needs. We pride ourselves on giving honest advice to clients and NEVER work in a target driven way.

We are a busy practice and also see a lot of exotic patients. This is the ideal role to get a good solid grounding in all aspects of veterinary work (consults and surgeries). Working alongside experienced vets in the daytime, with plenty of people to ask for help and advice. Additional training will also be given – not just in the clinical work, but the practicalities of veterinary practice too. The out of hours work then complements the day work to give a good basis of inpatient care and emergencies. More experienced staff are always on back up, so you are not “on your own”

Here at Ashleigh we are a constantly busy practice but are lucky enough to have a really wonderful team. Everyone looks out for each other and has each other’s back, which makes a good atmosphere. We want everyone to have a good work/life balance

The successful applicant must be a hard worker, want to learn and be a team player. This role would suit a new graduate, or a more experienced vet wanting to work part time

We are a team of 11 vets (1 diploma holder, 1 cert holder, 4 others sitting certs), 9 RVNs (most have exotic qualifications), 3 student nurses)1 PM, 6 aux nurses, 5 receptionists, 2 admin assistants

Up to £5000 relocation allowance and up to £1,500 welcome bonus

The rota is based on a 4-week pattern:
Week 1
8am-4pm Monday to Friday
11am-7pm Saturday-Sunday

Week 2
Off Monday-Tuesday
8am-4pm Wednesday-Friday

Week 3
7pm-8am Saturday-Friday

Week 4
Week off

On the out of hours shifts you will be caring for our inpatients, with the support of an auxiliary nurse, and the back up of a 2nd experienced veterinary surgeon on call should you need more support or advice. We also have an RVN on call for any OOH procedures, or surgeries where assistance is necessary. You will be taking OOH emergency calls, and seeing any necessary appointments in the clinic.

We do not provide OOH cover for any other practices. The rota would include a share of weekend shifts and bank holiday cover. We are happy to consider applicants from outside the UK with a valid RCVS membership.
