An opportunity is available for a Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join an independent, vet-owned RCVS-accredited hospital in South Wales. This permanent four-day-week role offers a balanced mix of first-opinion clinical work, leadership, and calm, supportive out-of-hours back-up.
Role & Schedule Details:
- Position: Senior Veterinary Surgeon (4-Day Week)
- Hours: Permanent 4-day week (4 x 8-hour shifts) with protected breaks, scheduled admin time, and a 1-hour lunch break
- Salary: £60,000 – £75,000 depending on experience and clinical confidence
- On-Call Rota: Second on-call 1 in 4 weeks (usually supporting the first on-call vet from home by phone; attending for complex cases).
- Weekend Rota: 1 in 4 weekend mornings caring for hospital inpatients.
- Location Note: Must live within 30 minutes' travelling time of the hospital.
Clinical Caseload & Practice Environment:
- Varied GP caseload including consulting, inpatient care, operating, and rescue work.
- 24/7 on-site RVN and SVN support during out-of-hours periods.
- Purpose-built hospital equipped with separate species wards, DR X-ray, Doppler ultrasound, dental radiography, in-house lab (SediVue), and endoscopy equipment.
Candidate Requirements:
- Experienced Veterinary Surgeon confident in emergency medicine and surgery.
- Calm under pressure, team-oriented, and passionate about mentoring developing vets and maintaining high clinical standards.
