Hours: 6:00pm – 8:00am

We're recruiting for an experienced Small Animal Night Vet to join a well-established independent veterinary practice in North Oxfordshire. Providing exceptional 24-hour care across multiple disciplines, the practice is committed to delivering a high standard of service to its own loyal client base, ensuring manageable caseloads and excellent continuity of care throughout the night.
Working alongside an experienced Night Nurse Team, you'll enjoy the autonomy to make clinical decisions while benefiting from the support of a collaborative and friendly practice.
The Role
As the Night Vet, you'll be responsible for the overnight care of hospitalised small animal patients, alongside managing emergency cases as they arise. Your shift begins with a thorough evening handover before carrying out consultations, ward rounds and inpatient care, followed by regular overnight monitoring and a seamless handover to the day team each morning.
The attractive 7 nights on, followed by 14 nights off rota provides an excellent balance between work and personal time, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys night work without compromising on quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing continuous overnight care for hospitalised small animal patients.
- Managing emergency presentations with confidence and sound clinical judgement.
- Conducting evening consultations, ward rounds, inpatient monitoring and patient discharges.
- Working closely with an experienced Night Nurse Team to deliver exceptional patient care.
- Maintaining accurate clinical records and detailed handovers.
- Preparing the hospital for a smooth transition to the day team each morning.
About You
This role would suit a confident veterinary surgeon who enjoys working independently, thrives in a night environment and is passionate about delivering high standards of patient care.
Essential Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years' UK small animal veterinary experience.
- RCVS registered.
- Confident working sole charge overnight.
- Comfortable managing both inpatient care and emergency cases.
- Excellent communication skills with a calm, compassionate approach to client care.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Able to work independently while contributing to the wider veterinary team.
- Own transport is essential due to the rural location.
