Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Small Animal Practice

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join a friendly, vet-owned independent small animal practice in rural Somerset. As the team continues to grow, this role offers flexibility, strong clinical support and a genuinely sustainable work–life balance.
The Role
This is a general practice small animal position, covering a mix of consults and routine surgery. The practice is ideally seeking a vet with 5–10 years’ experience, confident in day-to-day GP work and keen to be part of a close, collaborative team. Vets are encouraged to take an interest in areas they enjoy and are supported in developing niche skills.

Working Hours & Flexibility
4-day working week (3 days considered by discussion)
Typical hours: 9am–5/6pm
Average working week of approximately 33–35 hours
Flexible approach to rotas with a strong “give and take” ethos
Out-of-Hours & Weekends
Light on-call rota covering until 7pm
Around two weekday evenings per week (generally quiet)
Daytime-only weekend work:
Saturdays: 9am–12pm
Sundays: 10:30am–12pm
Weekend on-call cover until 7pm
Inpatient checks shared between vets and nurses, with very low inpatient numbers
Salary & Benefits
Salary between £35,000 – £60,000 per annum, depending on experience
