Surrey, United Kingdom

Our client in Surrey is looking to recruit a lead vet to join their independent small animal veterinary practice.

The practice was established in January this year and has gone strength to strength since. The practice has an ultrasound, x-ray, dental x-ray, and Lab (Idexx) and they have plans for an endoscope and a CT scanner in the near future.

They have a large waiting area (separate for dogs and cats), three consulting rooms, two theatres, a large prep area, extra room for a CT scan, a dog ward, a cat ward, an isolation room and a staff room.

About the Role

The role is full-time, working 4 days a week (9 am - 7 pm). You will work 1 in 2 Saturdays (9 am - 1 pm). There are no OOHs to ensure a healthy work/life balance.

I am seeking a dedicated and experienced small animal Veterinary Surgeon for the lead role.

We are looking for candidates with experience eager to enhance their career trajectory and aim for directorship roles within the establishment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to animal welfare and will be responsible for the daily operations of the surgery, overseeing all staff. A minimum of five years of experience (in the UK or equivalent) is required, alongside proficiency in routine surgery and medicine. The candidate should possess strong communication skills, be comfortable working within a team environment, be adept at handling sole charge responsibilities, and have a desire to advance their clinical expertise and that of the team. A shared commitment to the clients values—trustworthiness, compassion, care, and reliability—is essential.

Key Responsibilities

- Delivering high standards of clinical care to clients and patients with empathy and professionalism.
- Providing guidance and leadership to colleagues to ensure adherence to agreed performance measures.
- Upholding exceptional clinical quality and care standards while promoting an environment of continuous improvement.
- Implementing and enforcing relevant policies and procedures to ensure compliance across the team (e.g., preferred drug policy, health & safety regulations).
- Conducting consultations, surgeries, and treatment for patients.
- Participating in the recruitment and selection of staff.
- Collaborating with colleagues to facilitate exceptional care while driving practice development.
- Managing the sourcing and reordering of dispensary stock.
- Coordinating arrangements for locum cover as required.

They offer a competitive salary package ranging from £65,000 to £75,000, depending on experience. Additional benefits include:
- A contributory workplace pension.
- Coverage of RCVS, BVA, and VDS fees.
- Five weeks of annual leave, in addition to bank holidays.
- Annual appraisals.
- Potential accommodation assistance.
