Up to £63,000. A specialist exotics caseload. A four-day week. And a team of 16 vets who actually enjoy working together.
Roles with a genuine exotics focus are rare. This one is the real deal — and we are delighted to be recruiting for it.
We are working with a well-established, 24-hour veterinary hospital in the West Midlands, looking for a Veterinary Surgeon with an exotics bias to join a large, experienced and genuinely supportive clinical team. Whether you already hold a certificate in exotics or are actively working towards one, we want to hear from you.
The Details
- Salary: Up to £63,000 per annum depending on experience, pro rata for part time
- Hours: 4-day working week, fixed rota
- No OOH — dedicated night service covers overnight care
- Full time and part time applications welcome
The Caseload
Exotics currently account for approximately 50% of the role, with real scope to grow this further. The practice sees a strong and consistently growing exotics caseload including reptiles, small mammals and birds, with dedicated facilities to operate on and hospitalise exotic patients. A dedicated night team ensures thorough case continuity throughout.
Beyond exotics, the wider caseload is varied and substantial — from routine procedures through to orthopaedic surgery and exploratory laparotomies — supported by a 24-hour hospital with an extensive in-house laboratory offering diagnostics including cortisol, bile acids, blood gases, ionised calcium, in-house culture and sensitivity testing.
The Team
You will be joining a well-established clinical team of 16 vets and 30 nurses, supported by a Clinical Director, two Head Vets, a Clinical Nursing Manager and a Practice Manager. Six vets are currently working towards certificates in surgery, internal medicine and exotics — so you will be in good company.
The team holds regular clinical meetings, maintains high standards of care and genuinely champions further study and professional development. There is also a monthly visit to manage a local college's animal department, adding further variety to an already interesting week.
What We Are Looking For
- A Veterinary Surgeon with a genuine interest and background in exotics
- Holds, or is actively working towards, an Exotics certificate — or has extensive exotics experience in a small animal practice setting
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to high standards of clinical care
- A collaborative team player who takes pride in what they do
What Is On Offer
- Up to £63,000 per annum DOE, pro rata for part time
- 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays and birthday leave
- Extensive internal and funded external CPD
- RCVS and VDS fees paid
- Employer contribution pension scheme
- Life assurance
- Enhanced equal family leave
- E-car salary sacrifice scheme
An exotics role worth getting excited about. Let's have a conversation.
