JR is seeking an Out of Hours ECC Veterinary Surgeon to join our client’s team at their 24/7 Hospital. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for those with a passion for emergency and critical care looking for an advanced practice setting with strong support and development opportunities. This is a well-equipped facility offering advanced emergency care services.
You will be working alongside an OOH Registered Veterinary Nurse and an OOH Veterinary Care Assistant with Reception support available until 10pm, and a twilight RVN providing additional assistance until midnight. The practice is home to certificate holders in Surgery, Medicine, and Dentistry who can provide in-house support and guidance.
The team regularly performs emergency procedures such as caesareans, pyometras, and exploratory laparotomies with enterotomies and enterectomies. The hospital handles a range of challenging medical cases, including Addisonian crises, ketoacidotic diabetes, and severe pancreatitis. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art tools and technology to deliver top-tier emergency care including, Diagnostic Tools: Procyte haematology, Catalyst Dx, EPOC, APTT/PT coagulation testing, and various in-house tests (FeLV/FIV, Giardia, Parvo, Lepto). Imaging & Scopes: Digital X-ray, advanced ultrasound with Doppler, video gastroscope, bronchoscope, and otoscope. Surgical Equipment: Gen11 vessel sealing, Valleylab monopolar/bipolar equipment, Ligaclips, and advanced sterilization facilities. Patient Monitoring: Multiparameter monitors including ECG, capnography, temperature, SpO2, and blood pressure. The night team is expected to be skilled in or receive training to perform:
- Oesophageal tube placements.
- Seldinger chest drain placements.
- Silicone abdominal peritoneal drains.
- Pigtail urinary catheters.
- TFAST/AFAST ultrasound techniques.
- Endoscopy.
- Negative pressure wound therapy.
- Urinary catheterization.

This role has a shift pattern consisting of 7 nights on, 14 nights off (8pm to 8am), allowing for a significant work-life balance.
