No out-of-hours. Purpose-built hospital. Genuine surgical development.
Feeling ready to focus on surgery without burning out?
If you are a Veterinary Surgeon who loves surgery but feels stretched thin by constant firefighting, rushed consults, or endless out-of-hours, this could be the role that lets you practise the medicine you trained for, properly and sustainably.
The Opportunity
We are working with a high-quality primary care and referral practice in Dewsbury, that has built something genuinely special. This is a role designed for a Veterinary Surgeon with a strong surgical bias who wants time, support, and the right facilities to do excellent work, without sacrificing wellbeing.
You would be joining a large, established vet team in a purpose-built hospital environment, supported by experienced nurses, a dedicated on-site ECC night team, and colleagues who actively enjoy discussing cases and learning from one another. This is not about plugging a gap. It is about welcoming someone who wants to grow, contribute, and be part of a team that values clinical standards as much as it values its people.
Success here looks like having the confidence and backing to take on interesting surgical cases, being listened to in clinical discussions, and having space to develop your interests, whether you already hold a surgical certificate or are working towards one.
Why This Role Is Different
Surgery is genuinely supported
You will have access to fully equipped theatres, CT on site, dental radiography, high-quality ultrasound, and advanced procedures including laparoscopy, endoscopy, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery. This is a place where surgical interest is encouraged, not sidelined.
Time to do things properly
Consults are a minimum of 15 minutes. There is a strong emphasis on patient care, communication, and clinical decision-making rather than rushing from room to room.
No out-of-hours
A dedicated, on-site night team provides 24-hour emergency cover. Your time off is your own, with only some contribution to weekend day work.
A culture people stay for
Many vets here are working towards certificates or advanced practitioner status. Case discussions are routine, support is real, and the atmosphere is friendly, welcoming, and inclusive. Wellbeing is taken seriously, with trained mental health advisors available on site.
Values that go beyond clinical work
The practice is proud to be Silver Cat Friendly and has recently been awarded Investors in the Environment Bronze Award, reflecting a genuine commitment to sustainability and responsible practice.
Your Journey Here
In your first month, you will focus on settling in, getting to know the team, understanding hospital workflows, and building confidence with the facilities and support around you.
By three months, you will be comfortably managing your own caseload, taking on a growing range of surgical procedures, and actively contributing to case discussions alongside colleagues who value collaboration.
By six months, you will be an established member of the team, shaping your surgical focus, potentially progressing with certificate-level CPD, and having a real voice in how clinical standards continue to evolve.
