A well-established independent veterinary practice in Central Worcestershire is looking for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join their experienced and supportive team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a collaborative environment handling a varied caseload, with excellent facilities and strong clinical support to help you continue developing your skills.
This role would suit a vet with some experience who enjoys working up cases and is keen to grow clinically within a progressive, well-equipped practice.
The Practice
This long-standing independent veterinary practice has been serving the local community for over 60 years, operating as a large mixed practice with dedicated small animal facilities across multiple sites.
The main small animal surgery is based in Central Worcestershire, supported by additional clinics in the surrounding area. The practice manages a wide range of medical and surgical cases in-house, offering vets the chance to develop their skills across a diverse caseload.
Facilities include:
- Dental radiography
- Gastroscopy
- Two laparoscopic systems
- Advanced surgical microscope with integrated camera
- Multiple ultrasound machines
- Dedicated orthopaedic and soft tissue theatre suite
- The practice is committed to continually investing in both equipment and staff development, ensuring the team can deliver high standards of patient care while pursuing their clinical interests.
The Team
You’ll be joining a large, supportive and highly experienced team that includes:
- 14 Veterinary Surgeons
- 5 Certificate Holders across surgery, medicine, dermatology and exotics
- Practice directors with advanced surgical expertise who also accept local referrals
- 9 Registered Veterinary Nurses and 2 Student Nurses
- A friendly and experienced support team
- The practice also collaborates with visiting specialists including a cardiology specialist, ophthalmologist and chartered veterinary physiotherapist, offering further learning opportunities and support for more complex cases.
The Role
As a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality first-opinion veterinary care while working closely with experienced colleagues across the practice.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Small animal consultations and routine surgical procedures
- Managing medical and surgical cases
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the practice group
- Delivering excellent client and patient care
- Developing clinical interests with support from the wider team
- The practice strongly supports CPD and certificate study, with investment in training and equipment to help vets pursue areas of particular clinical interest.
Working Pattern
The rota is designed with work-life balance in mind:
- 4-day working week (8:30am – 6:30pm)
- Fixed day off each week
- No out-of-hours work – emergencies covered externally
- One late finish until 7pm every two weeks for emergency triage
- Weekend rota across a 16-week cycle, including:
- Two Saturdays (8:30am – 4:30pm)
- Two full weekends (Saturday 8:30am – 4:30pm and Sunday 10am – 2pm)
- Dedicated admin time is built into the day, meaning vets are generally able to finish on time.
Salary & Benefits
- £45,000 – £75,000 salary depending on experience
- Enhanced salary available for Advanced Practitioners or certificate holders
- 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays
