BEVA and BSAVA mixed practitioners can now sign up for quality CPD at BEVA Congress 9th – 12th September 2015 and BSAVA Congress, 7th -10th April 2016, on just one ticket, to save money and optimise use of time out of the practice. The single ticket will allow them to choose from a phenomenal seven days of CPD at two separate events spread over eight months. All vets can also benefit from a discounted ticket to BEVA Congress if they book before 5th August 2015.

This year BEVA Congress will be held in the heart of Liverpool at the spacious Arena Convention Centre. As the largest equine veterinary conference in Europe it attracts more than 1,200 equine and mixed vets each year. Over the years the social scene has become as revered as the outstanding quality of the lectures, while the substantial commercial exhibition has also become a lively highlight.

The programme, led by many leading International Specialists, is spread over three days and comprises more than 90 hours of CPD lectures on 20 different aspects of world-class science, innovation and day-to-day practical veterinary medicine and surgery. Five separate programmes, utilising different presentation styles, will run concurrently in five adjacent halls, giving delegates the flexibility to choose from traditional lectures, panel discussions, interactive forums and ‘how to’ sessions. There are topics to suit vets throughout all stages of their career, whether an undergraduates, leading Specialists or mixed practitioners. Vet nurses, farriers, equine physiotherapists and equine dental technicians can also enjoy sessions that are specifically focused on their particular areas of expertise.

This year’s programme highlights include a full day on lameness and orthopaedics on the Thursday, with contributions from Michael Schramme from VetAgro Sup in Lyon and Mike Ross from the University of Pennsylvania. There will also be an afternoon of equine dentistry on the Thursday, exploring dentistry in ambulatory practice and emerging techniques, with special guest Travis Henry from Midwest Equine Services in Wisconsin. A full day of colic-related topics including diagnostics, treatment and surgical techniques, will be held on the Friday, incorporating presentations from Jim Schumacher from the University of Tennessee and Louise Southwood from the University of Pennsylvania. Friday also includes a day of reproduction lectures with Sarah Jalim from Victorian Equine Group in Australia, Terttu Katila from the University of Helsinki, Nicola Pusterla from the University of California and Tom Stout from the University of Utrecht.  Saturday’s extensive sessions on the veterinary and physiotherapy interface will investigate back pain, lameness and the incorporation of manipulative therapies.

There will also be comprehensive sessions on neoplasia, parasitology, infectious disease, pre-purchase examinations, enterophepatic disease, oncology, cardiology, respiratory medicine, anaesthesia, urology, the hospitalised horse and practice management. In addition, daily clinical research presentations will provide exclusive opportunities to hear about novel and exciting research projects.

Eddie Clutton RCVS Professor of Veterinary Anaesthesia at The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, will be giving the plenary lecture, discussing the challenges of Anaesthesia in horses: Illness, pain, broken legs and death.

In response to demand from members there will again be two Moral Maze debates. On the Thursday Professor Roger Smith will chair the highly topical Is equine sports medicine ethical? On the Saturday Malcolm Morley will chair the intriguingly titled Does equine practice need to change to be more compatible with family life?
