Former England captain, Jimmy Armfield is officially presenting World Horse Welfare’s Penny Farm near Blackpool with a signed shirt donated by England and Manchester United star striker Wayne Rooney.
Jimmy Armfield CBE, who played the whole of his 17-year career with Blackpool and was the High Sheriff of Lancashire from 2005-2006, will be at Penny Farm this week (Thursday 14 June) to hand over Rooney’s United shirt, which has been kindly arranged by the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) – a supporter of World Horse Welfare. The shirt will go on display at the Visitor Centre at Penny Farm until a raffle later in the year.
Fran Williamson, who is Centre Manager at Penny Farm said: “We are thrilled to have this fantastic shirt donated by Wayne Rooney and the PFA and are very excited about Jimmy coming to the farm to officially present it to us, especially at a time when he is focused on England’s chances in the Euros. He has such strong local connections and is simply a Blackpool legend. We hope the shirt will create quite a buzz in our Visitor Centre and then later in the year raise some much-needed funds to support our work helping horses.”
Penny Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre near Blackpool is open to members of the public every Wednesday, weekend and Bank Holiday between 11am and 4pm.More from
