Leading veterinary education provider, Ifevet, has gained accreditation for its postgraduate certificate in Small Animal Neurology from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the statutory regulatory body for the UK veterinary professions. It is the first Ifevet programme to achieve this recognition, which follows a rigorous, year-long accreditation process. The Ifevet Postgraduate Certificate in Neurology – PgCert. Neuro. Ifevet (APR) – is now an RCVS-approved eligible qualification enabling application for Advanced Practitioner status.
The PgCert in small animal neurology has been available since 2025 and is now accepting those wishing to be part of the first intake for the accredited qualification in February 2027. Ifevet has delivered university recognised postgraduate training to over 5000 veterinarians across Europe over the last six years.
Daniel Garcia, CEO at Ifevet, says he is delighted that the course has achieved RCVS recognition, “Our neurology PgCert is already recognised by universities and benefits from live teaching delivered by ten world leading specialists. With an emphasis on the development of strong clinical thinking skills, we know this course elevates the competence and confidence of clinicians and benefits their patients every day in practice. Achieving RCVS recognition now allows vets to progress to Advanced Practitioner level should they wish to do so, which offers another opportunity for further progression.”
The programme runs over 12-14 months and combines live-streamed teaching from leading veterinary specialists, with sessions also recorded to offer greater flexibility. It includes a structured assessment process designed to evaluate how participants apply their knowledge in clinical practice, through coursework, independent study and a range of practical, case-based assessments.
Ane Uriarte, DVM, FRCVS, DipECVN, EBVS® European Specialist in Veterinary Neurology and RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Neurology is the course director and says, “I’ve been involved with Ifevet and the creation of PgCerts for over six years and I really enjoy seeing the participants deepen their knowledge and understanding of how to handle cases. We aim to ensure it is suitable for first opinion practitioners and those seeking to specialise via an internship or residency. It’s a real pleasure to be contributing to their development.”
The Ifevet postgraduate certificate in Small Animal Neurology is a Level 7 qualification and earns the equivalent of 60 UK Credits or 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System), meaning that it is accepted as a qualification that acts as a gateway to progression to master’s and PhDs qualifications. Additional RCVS accreditation means that the PgCert (APR) is eligible as a qualification that meets the requirements for Advanced Practitioner status – which in turn requires application to the RCVS.
