Kirsty Cavill has been named Blue Cross Veterinary Nurse of the Year by the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) in recognition of the significant impact she has on the welfare of senior pets.

Kirsty, who is Head of Clinical Services at The Vet Connection, won the award in recognition of her support for animal welfare. This includes her work educating and raising awareness of chronic pain in dogs and cats that have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis.

In addition to her role at The Vet Connection, which is the UK’s largest independent veterinary telehealth provider and part of Pets at Home, Kirsty specialises in the management of senior dogs and musculoskeletal health, running a rehabilitation business from her hometown of Ivybridge in Devon.

She volunteers with Canine Arthritis Management, a group that helps pet owners to identify arthritis in dogs, and StreetVet, a charity that delivers free and essential veterinary care to the pets of people experiencing homelessness across the UK.

She was presented with her award at the BVNA Awards, which recognise the invaluable support veterinary nurses provide to their teams, the nation’s pets and pet owners, in October.

Commenting on her award, Kirsty said: “I was extremely surprised to have been given this prestigious award. Being entrusted to care for an owner's beloved pet and helping to facilitate the human - animal bond is a privilege, which I never take for granted. To be recognised by the Blue Cross in this way, is an absolute honour.”
