Darvall Announces Major Sponsorship Of WCVAA Meeting In Sydney

Darvall, alongside Zoetis, is a main sponsor of the 2023 World Congress of Veterinary Anaesthesia & Analgesia (WCVAA) in Sydney, Australia. It’s a further display of the company’s commitment to improving patient outcomes, better economic performance, and permitting high levels of competence in anaesthesia and pain management among industry professionals.
Darvall’s founder, Dr Colin Dunlop, is convener of the event, where the company’s full range of cutting-edge anaesthetic monitoring equipment will be on display on its stand at the Sydney Masonic Centre, March 27 to 30, 2023.
“WCVAA is an important opportunity for industry professionals to come together and develop innovative products and services to further improve patient safety, ensuring ethical treatment, and boosting pet owner confidence,” says Darvall founder, Dr Colin Dunlop. “Anaesthesia is a routine part of today’s modern veterinary practice. It’s vital that we continue to refine equipment and supplies as sustainably as possible, while continuing education for veterinarians and veterinary anaesthetists around the world to ultimately reduce mortality in veterinary patients.”
A Darvall interactive demonstration site at the meeting will display industry-leading anaesthesia equipment. It will showcase the Darvall Express, Darvall Lack and Stingray breathing systems, and the Darvall DVM vaporiser, which was unveiled last year. Practitioners in attendance will be able to test these innovative devices evaluating anaesthetic output, speed of delivery and CO2 elimination.
“The programme is packed with well-respected Australian and international speakers presenting a wealth of information on recognition and assessment of pain, ethical treatment, and environmental challenges involved in anaesthesia and pain management in veterinary patients,” adds Dr Dunlop.
The event will also see Darvall put on a display of Dr Dunlop’s collection of historical veterinary anaesthesia equipment, going back four decades. It includes an original (UK) Boyle’s Anaesthesia Machine, manufactured between 1920 and 1950, and all three generations of CIG Midget Anaesthesia Machines manufactured in the UK and Australia, between 1930 and 1985. In addition to that will be a range of historical large animal anaesthesia machines, including a large animal vaporiser-in-circuit Stephen’s machine. It was donated by the family of Dr Alister Rodgers, from Rockhampton in Queensland, Australia, who contracted Hendra Virus from a sick horse and died a week later in September 2009.
The 4-day WCVAA is a congress held every 3 years and this year’s event in Sydney is the first post-Covid meeting. More than 400 veterinary anaesthesiologists, trainees and pain management experts from around the world are expected to attend. The major focus for 2023 is Chronic Pain and its management, showcasing the inclusion of Analgesia as a fundamental component of the science of Anaesthesia.
