Davies Veterinary Specialists, the small animal multi-disciplinary referral practice based in Hertfordshire, has appointed two new orthopaedic surgeons. Jan Janovec, European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery, has joined as the new Head of Orthopaedics and Vincent Guerin, also a European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery has joined the surgical team.

Jan Janovec graduated with honours from the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno, Czech Republic, in 2008. After three years working in his home country, he moved to the UK, completed two rotating internships, and worked in a veterinary charity hospital, before he embarked on an ECVS surgical residency programme. Upon completion of his specialist training, he became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and an RCVS recognised Specialist in Small Animal Surgery in 2018. Jan worked as a consultant in small animal surgery at other UK veterinary referral centres before joining Davies. He has a special interest in fracture management, total hip replacement, and revision surgery.

Jan said: “Davies has always been proud of its orthopaedic care provided by the orthopaedic service in conjunction with the on-site therapy and fitness centre to maximise patient recovery. My goal has always been to provide the best possible care to my patients and I believe that working in a multidisciplinary team of highly qualified vets supported by compassionate nurses and other members of staff is the best way to achieve this.”

Vincent Guerin graduated in 2008 from the University of Nantes (France) and went on to take a small animal internship in a private practice in France. He moved to the UK the following year to undertake a six-month externship in small animal surgery, completed a three-year residency in small animal surgery and a clinical Masters degree at the Royal Veterinary College, London. He qualified as a Specialist in February 2016 and went on to work as a soft tissue surgeon and then as an orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeon before joining Davies in February 2020. Vincent particularly enjoys fracture repair and presented his work on the development of a specific locking plate to treat canine proximal tibial fractures at the ECVS Congress in 2014. He also has a special interest in stifle surgery and elbow arthroscopy.

Jan and Vincent will be supported by Davies’ existing orthopaedic team: Ellie Cockburn, Rufus Hammerton and Alex Krekis. To find out more please visit https://vetspecialists.co.uk/meet-the-team/orthopaedics/
