Cambridge vet Mimi Joffroy and CJ the cat
Dreams Come True For Cambridge Vet Starring In National TV Campaign
Cambridge vet Mimi Joffroy couldn’t believe her luck when she was cast alongside a cat in a nationwide TV campaign to help keep cats safe this winter.
The Cats Protection campaign portrays parallel stories of a little girl who longs for a cat of her own, and an abandoned cat in need of a loving forever home. When Cats Protection connects Clara, the young girl, with the cat left out in the cold, both their dreams are fulfilled.
Mimi plays a member of the Cats Protection admissions team who checks over a cat that has been rescued from a cold life of abandonment, and she also provides narration to the story. Perfect casting for Mimi; she’s a practising vet in real life.
“I've had various roles in veterinary practice for 12 years and worked in television for four, and I’ve been keen to do an acting job that incorporates both, so I was chuffed when I got this role,’ said Mimi.
“And I’m mad about cats so I couldn’t have wished for a better role. Working with CJ, the cat in the advert, was a real treat. He was such a gorgeous, friendly boy. It's been a blast.”

Hailing from Belfast, Mimi lives in Cambridge with Oliver, her four-year-old ginger British Shorthair cross. “Oliver is the love of my life,’ she said. “He brings me a pink toy fish every night at 11pm and then tucks himself into bed with me. We’re made for each other. He’ll even sit on command.”
Mimi’s support for Cats Protection doesn’t end with this advertising stint; she plans to run the London Marathon in April, raising money for the charity in its centenary year.
“I believe that life is better with cats and we should do everything we can to help animals, when they give us such companionship, love and joy,’ she said. “I've worked a lot with Cats Protection in my veterinary work so running the marathon for them seemed like a great fit.”
Director Max Sobol said: “Casting an actress who is also an actual vet was very fortunate for us as she knew instinctively how best to relate to the cat on set. Mimi’s behaviour with the cat makes the film more genuine, and her calming voice reassured us all, not just the cat.”
Nicola Shepherd, Associate Director of Brand & Marketing at Cats Protection, said: "This beautiful film captures the start of a special bond between people and cats that many people will recognise, while highlighting the life-changing impact of finding a cat a safe and loving home."
The TV and digital advertising campaign has been designed to increase awareness of Cats Protection's work and inspire support for its mission to make life better for cats. The 60” TV film will premiere on Channel 4 on 30 October.
