Elanco Donates 1,400 Hours To Charity For Day Of Service
Hundreds of employees at Elanco got their hands dirty as they dug up soil, planted veg, renovated buildings and even cycled for 24 hours, as part of Elanco’s annual Day of Service.
The popular annual event saw 214 UK staff clock up an impressive 1,409 hours of voluntary work in support of ten food security and animal companionship charities.
These included Elanco’s chosen partner charities: FareShare, which redirects in-date surplus from the food industry to charities and community groups that feed people in need, and Dogs for Good, which supports people with disabilities and communities through the help of specially trained assistance dogs and activity and therapy dogs.
One initiative saw volunteers spend time at six FareShare depots across the UK – a project that has been supported regularly by Elanco volunteers across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland since 2012.
James Sheehy, Swine Account Manager, spent a day at a FareShare depot and said he was humbled by the experience:
“It was completely overwhelming to see and hear about the incredible work that FareShare does for local communities. It’s one thing to be aware of charities that redistribute food to those in need, but to actually see first-hand the positive impact it has on those reliant on FareShare, was very humbling.
“Many people aspire to do some sort of voluntary work in their lives, but often just don’t have the time. I feel very privileged that I get to do something so worthwhile as part of my job.”
Twelve volunteers put in an Olympic effort for Dogs for Good, cycling a 24-hour ‘Spinathon’ at the charity’s head office. When the team weren’t busy cheering on their colleagues, they were baking scrumptious delights for the coffee morning and recruiting new puppy socialisers – a key stage in training any assistance dog.
Gaynor Hillier, UK and Ireland affiliate director at Elanco Animal Health said employees are proud to help such good causes:
“The Elanco team is truly passionate about the role of the human-animal bond and food security in enriching people’s lives so we are delighted to be able to support charities across the UK such as Dogs for Good and FareShare which do just that. Time is such a precious commodity, so it’s extremely refreshing and rewarding to donate hours of the day to good causes.”
Dogs for Good Corporate Partnerships Manager Cathryn Simpson said: “It was great to have the team here, not only raising money for us but bringing real enthusiasm in helping us in the recruitment of our puppy socialisers who provide absolutely vital training and support for our future assistance dogs. It was great to see Elanco staff making such a positive contribution to our work.”
Lindsay Boswell, chief executive of FareShare said: “We’re incredibly grateful for the time, energy and commitment that Elanco staff gave to FareShare on their Global Day of Service – and on many other occasions throughout the year – to help us fight food waste and hunger across the UK. With their support, we were able to get more good food to the people in our communities who need it most.”
