First OCQ(V)TT Practical Assessments
Three vets from Devon-based Penbode Vets have been the first to complete the new OCQ(V) in Tuberculin Testing (TT). As a result, they have now been awarded full OV status. They are Lauren Medland, Sarah Phillpot and Richard Talbot.
Sue Hay MRCVS, Head of Practical Skills at Improve International, says: " To achieve OV status, they had firstly to complete the Essentials Skills module online, then undertake the online TT training before undergoing a practical assessment following a period of supported training in the field. They all fully embraced the training and will be the will be the first of many successful candidates who will provide the quality TT testing required in England, Scotland and Wales into the future."
The new OV training has been developed by Improve International, a veterinary CPD specialist, in conjunction with its assessment partner the European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ESVPS) and Harper Adams University, which validates the qualifications. It was appointed to handle OV registration and training in England, Scotland and Wales by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) earlier this year. There are 10 separate OCQ (V)s covering a variety of topics important for OVs, including a couple of modules which form the foundation for the rest of the courses.
The new OV registration and training website which contains details of the new process and the new OVQ(V) qualification, went live in August at www.improve-ov.com. Under the new system, individuals or employers fund their own OV training but benefit from the fact that they can access the majority of course content 24/7 on the new website at a convenient time and without having to be absent from the practice.
Improve International was founded in 1998 by veterinary surgeons from across the UK, including a number of recognised experts. Based in Swindon, it provides high quality CPD in a range of formats for veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, receptionists and practice managers to help them develop their skills and knowledge, using a combination of review lectures, case-based discussion and ‘hands-on’ practical sessions.
