A team of highly regarded clinical practitioners is now in place at Blaise Veterinary Referral Hospital, IVC Evidensia’s newest hospital in Longbridge, Birmingham.

Part of the IVC Evidensia referral network, the new hospital is open for referrals from first opinion practices in the surrounding area and also provides 24/7 emergency care through its partnership with Vets Now.

Jacques Ferreria, European Diplomate and graduate of the University of Pretoria in South Africa, has been appointed head of anaesthesia and analgesia, with specific clinical interest in locoregional anaesthesia and chronic pain.

Head of diagnostic imaging Carlo Aneslmi graduated from the University of Padova in Italy and holds a European Diploma in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. He has a particular interest in cardiorespiratory systems, abdominal ultrasound, exotics, neurology and oncology.

Passionate about both conventional and minimally invasive soft tissue surgery, Lara Dempsey is head of the discipline at Blaise. She has certificates in small animal surgery and small animal medicine, as well as advanced practitioner status and a European Diploma in Veterinary Surgery.

Jen Raj is head of internal medicine, holding a European Diploma in the specialism and having graduated from the Royal Veterinary College. Her clinical interests are haematology and gastroenterology.

Head of cardiology Xavier Navarro is a European Diplomate in Veterinary Cardiology, having graduated from the University of Valencia and completed his residency at the University of Liverpool. He enjoys the balance between medical and interventional cardiology, with clinical interests in congenital cardiac diseases and feline and canine cardiomyopathies.

Out-of-hours lead vet Tom Cammack is responsible for managing the out-of-hours floor and team at Blaise. Having spent two years working at a busy emergency hospital, he is well accustomed to the requirements of out-of-hours care and is using his spare time at the hospital to develop his interests in diagnostic imaging, endoscopy and surgery.

Andrew Kent, clinical director at Blaise, said he is thrilled to be working alongside an expert team at the hospital:

“The demand for a broad range of specialist referral services has grown in recent years and great care has been taken while building the team at Blaise to ensure we can service those needs in the best possible way.

“It’s a privilege to be able to work alongside a team of such highly esteemed practitioners at Blaise and together we are creating a culture of learning and development that everyone can benefit from, while providing exceptional levels of patient care for pets who need it.”

Blaise is fully operational and open 24/7 for referrals, supporting colleagues from surrounding vet practices, across the midlands and the rest of the UK. For more information, visit www.blaise-referrals.com
