Improve International Exceeds Industry Benchmark To Retain Investors In People Standard For Nine Years
Improve International, a global leader in veterinary CPD, has retained the Investors in People (IiP) Standard it first achieved in 2010. The company was one of the first in the veterinary sector to embrace IiP and has retained the Standard for a third time after a reassessment in which it scored 756 points compared to the IIP average benchmark of 724 and the industry average benchmark of 699.
To complete the assessment, all of Improve’s staff were required to complete an online survey, covering areas including leadership; the organisation’s values and how it manages performance, builds capability and creates sustainable success. A quarter of the staff were then selected for a face-to-face interview with the external assessor and were asked to explain the business’ philosophy and beliefs and how management interacts with the rest of the team on a day-to-day basis. A comprehensive report was issued by the assessor with Improve becoming the highest scoring organisation within the education sector, which includes universities.
One of the world’s leading veterinary training companies, Improve International is celebrating its 21st anniversary during 2019. Founded by a team of UK vets, the company has trained more than 20,000 veterinary professionals in 20 countries around the world. In the delivery of its programmes, it works closely with its assessment partner, the European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ESVPS), and with Harper Adams University, which provides the higher education body quality assurance.
IiP aims to transform business performance through people, providing a framework for key business areas with participating companies given support and tools to enhance their performance. They are then benchmarked against set criteria to achieve the Standard award or the higher levels of Silver and Gold.
Jeff Pullen, the IiP specialist who carried out Improve International's reassessment, commented: "Organisations that seek affirmation that they are getting some things right but want to get better are Investors in People companies and Improve International is most certainly such a company. I have taken it through three all three assessments and, each time, the company has progressed, developing its people to ensure they are equipped to deliver its goals. It is a privilege to work with the Improve team as it goes from strength to strength.”
Alison Babington MRCVS, Business Development and e -Learning Coordinator at Improve International, said: "We were delighted to renew our Investors in People award at the Standard level. It is rewarding to be externally assessed and to be reassured that our investment in our people is impacting positively on the company. We are a much larger organisation than at our last assessment but the reassessment process highlighted the progress we have made and the breadth of skills we now have in the company.”
Part of Benchmark Plc and based in Swindon, with an additional facility in Sheffield, Improve International provides high quality CPD in a range of formats for veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses to help them to develop their skills and knowledge, using a combination of review lectures, case-based discussions and where, applicable, hands-on practical sessions.

Notes to editors:
Investors in People
The Investors in People Standard provides a practical framework for improving business performance and competitiveness through good practice in people management
An organisation that has achieved the Standard has been successful in adopting and maintaining its three fundamental principles: Plan – developing strategies to improve the performance of the organisation, from business goals to leadership strategies; Do – implementing these strategies, taking action to improve the performance of the organisation; Review – evaluating and adjusting these strategies, measuring their impact on the performance of the organisation.
