Vetsure today announces the launch of vetsuremeds.com, a VMD-approved online dispensary platform designed to help UK independent veterinary practices retain medicine revenue, reduce administrative workload and meet growing regulatory demands. Rolling out across the Vetsure network in coming weeks, the purpose-built platform integrates prescribing and purchasing into a single, closed system, enabling practices to offer clients online convenience while keeping a share of medicine income within the practice.

Independent veterinary practices are facing mounting pressure from regulatory change and growing corporate consolidation. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation has resulted in a demand for increased transparency and client choice around prescriptions, an outcome that can only be expected to accelerate the shift of medicine purchases online.

At the same time, many of the UK’s largest online veterinary pharmacies are owned by corporate groups, raising concerns about revenue leakage and the sharing of client data with competitors.

With approximately 30% of small animal practice income derived from medicine sales, this shift presents a significant commercial challenge for the independent sector. Vetsuremeds.com has been developed to directly address these challenges, placing independent practices back at the centre of the dispensary journey.

The platform allows prescriptions to be issued within the clinical workflow and enables clients to purchase medications instantly at the point of care, with delivery direct to the client. By linking prescribing and fulfilment, it reduces administrative burden, supports compliance and security, and helps practices retain an income stream that might otherwise be lost to external providers.

“As a company founded, owned and run by vets, we were driven to act in the face of a rapidly changing marketplace,” said Dr. Ashley Gray, Managing Director of Vetsure.

“Our mission has always been to champion independent clinics. The CMA investigation highlights a very real risk to practice income, particularly when such a significant proportion is tied to medicine sales. Vetsuremeds.com enables practices to meet evolving regulatory expectations, deliver outstanding client service, and continue to thrive as independent businesses.”

The development of the platform has been shaped in close collaboration with independent practices across the Vetsure network.

“We’re constantly evolving, innovating and adapting,” said Florence Page, Head of Business Development at Vetsure. “Where clients are requesting prescriptions, it is far better to direct them to a trusted site to retain an alternative income stream.”

“Guided by our members, vetsuremeds.com is the result of a truly collaborative effort with practice leaders across our network. We’re incredibly excited to bring this to market and to support the continued growth and resilience of the independent sector.”

Vetsuremeds.com represents a significant step forward in addressing the structural challenges facing independent practices, offering a model that combines clinical excellence, commercial sustainability, and regulatory alignment.

By keeping online medicine sales connected to the practice, it aims to support independent clinics in maintaining financial sustainability while continuing to invest in patient care, teams and their local communities.

The platform is currently in beta testing and will roll out across the Vetsure network in the coming weeks, with wider market availability planned later in the year.
