Inspiration For Veterinary Leaders On Offer At VMG Congress 2025
24-25 April, Crowne Plaza, Stratford upon Avon
The Veterinary Management Group (VMG) has opened registration for its 2025 Congress, promising to empower and equip the next generation of veterinary leaders, as well as challenge experienced leaders with explorations of advanced leadership strategies and insights into emerging industry trends. It will also launch the second edition of the VMG State of UK Veterinary Leadership Report, which benchmarks leadership skills across the veterinary sector in the UK.
VMG Congress will provide innovative and highly practical content in an informal, friendly and supportive atmosphere, built around three leadership-focused streams:
- Building Foundations – tailored to the needs of new and aspiring leaders, this will offer insights into the fundamentals of leadership and explore how to set strong foundations for future success
- Expanding Horizons – designed for experienced leaders, this will explore advanced leadership strategies and current industry trends including ‘quiet quitting’, the rise of online misinformation and opportunities for service expansion
- Discovering Opportunities – this includes workshops and panel discussions, including the launch of the latest VMG State of UK Veterinary Leadership report. The first edition, launched in 2024, revealed that a third (34%) of respondents rated their leadership skills as ‘basic,’ with only 1% describing their expertise as ‘excellent.’ The VMG is working to address these knowledge gaps and raise veterinary leadership standards within the next five years.
The VMG is delighted to welcome Calvin Akotuah, co-founder of Loud Speaker, as its keynote speaker for VMG Congress 2025. A finalist in the 2023 Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Loud Speaker delivers impactful life skills workshops to young people across the UK. Calvin will share his insights into resilience, motivation and cultivating positive change – all themes that resonate strongly within the veterinary profession today.
Popular features will also return, including the early ‘kickstart’ sessions and the morning ‘walkshop’ along the bank of the River Avon, together with the team from Art of Brilliance – a favourite from VMG Congress 2024. They will deliver their highly praised workshop on positive psychology and creating a positive workplace culture.
To encourage the attendance of future leaders, the VMG has introduced a discounted ‘Aspiring Leader’ package this year, enabling delegates to bring a colleague with leadership potential. It is also supporting new and emerging businesses with a new startup exhibitor package.
Commenting, VMG President Liz Somerville said: “VMG Congress 2025 will embody everything we stand for with a particular focus on empowering the next generation of veterinary leaders. We’re looking forward to stimulating discussions on all aspects of veterinary leadership, including the results of our latest report and on developments in the sector, including the on-going CMA enquiry.
“Today’s veterinary leaders, whether experienced or just setting out on their journey, face numerous challenges – but ours is a collaborative profession, always ready to support and guide one another. VMG Congress will showcase the very best of leadership in our profession today and offer two days of learning, sharing and inspiration to all.”
