VMG Launches Affordable Introduction To Veterinary Leadership And Management
New course supports aspiring and first-time leaders in the veterinary sector
The Veterinary Management Group (VMG) has launched a new Introduction to Leadership and Management (iVLM) course, offering an accessible and affordable entry point into leadership development for individuals and organisations across the veterinary sector.
The iVLM provides practical, entry-level training designed to equip learners with essential leadership and management knowledge and skills. Pitched at Level 3 standard, it is aimed at those who are new to leadership, taking on additional responsibilities, or aspiring to lead within their organisation.
The course covers leadership theory, emotional intelligence, communication styles, motivation and workplace wellbeing. Learners study at their own pace, completing a short quiz at the end of the module. According to the VMG, the iVLM offers a flexible and effective way to build leadership capability without the time or cost commitment of more advanced programmes.
The iVLM also provides a clear progression route into the VMG’s globally recognised and ILM accredited Qualified Veterinary Leader programmes. The VMG/ILM Level 5 Award (AVLM), Certificate (CVLM) and Diploma in Veterinary Leadership and Management (DVLM) form a contemporary suite of qualifications, combining flexibility with a strong focus on real-world experience.
Alongside the new course, the VMG has re-launched an updated series of ten standalone CPD modules for those looking to build confidence or deepen their expertise in specific aspects of leadership. Topics include understanding leadership styles, navigating team communication and supporting wellbeing. Each module provides 25 hours of CPD and is aligned to Level 5.
Amy Martin RVN MA, Learning and Development Manager at the VMG, said: “Supporting VMG members and non-members alike to learn and grow is our goal and we’re committed to making high-quality training and development accessible to everyone in the sector, wherever they are on their leadership journey.
“The new iVLM gives learners the essential tools they need to begin leading with clarity, purpose and professionalism. Those who want to go further can then progress to the CVLM.
“Our new CPD modules also support leaders who want to strengthen their knowledge or develop their skills in particular areas of leadership.”
The iVLM was inspired by VMG president Rebecca Robinson MRCVS, who has championed the development of non-clinical skills across all roles within veterinary practice during her year in office.
This year’s VMG Congress under the theme “United in Leadership” will take place from 22–24 April 2026 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Stratford-upon-Avon. The programme and tickets are available here:
