inspiring vet care, the UK’s largest veterinary group, has launched the Future Vet Collective, a new network supporting and empowering racially marginalised veterinary students across UK universities.

The collective will provide students with year-round opportunities to build skills, confidence and connections across the veterinary profession - from practical training and mentorship, to networking, career advice and financial support.

Delivered as part of a collaboration with industry partners, the initiative builds on inspiring vet care’s existing Ethnic Diversity Scholarship Scheme and forms part of its wider commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

With more than 900 practices and 3,300 vets across the UK, including over 400 farm vets and around 300 equine vets, inspiring vet care’s network spans small animal, equine and farm veterinary care. The Future Vet Collective will give students opportunities to gain insight and experience across these different areas, including residential placements at equine and farm practices.

Members will receive free enrolment and welcome packs, regular newsletters, funding for learning and research, and bursaries towards travel and placement accommodation. They will also have access to webinars, mentoring from veterinary professionals, networking events, conferences and an annual awards ceremony celebrating students’ achievements.

Ethnic minority representation within the veterinary profession is particularly low compared to other sectors, so providing greater access, support, and opportunities for aspiring vets is essential.

Applications for the Future Vet Collective opened in October to coincide with Black History Month, and has already seen members from vet schools across the UK.

Navaratnam Partheeban, Regional Head of Farm, at inspiring vet care says:
“We’re delighted to launch the Future Vet Collective and build on our commitment to creating a more inclusive and diverse veterinary profession.

As the UK’s largest veterinary group, we have a responsibility to help remove barriers facing aspiring vets and create more opportunities to explore and enter the profession. Student vets are the future of veterinary care, and we’re committed to supporting them throughout their journey.”
