The Pets at Home Vet Group has reached yet another landmark after opening its 400th practice.

Based on Hayling Island in Hampshire, the surgery was officially opened by the Mayor of Havant, councillor Faith Ponsonby.

Chief executive of the Pets at Home Vet Group, Sally Hopson, was also in attendance and welcomed new Joint Venture Partner and veterinary surgeon, Daniele Saita DVM, MRCVS to the group.

Sally said: “The Hayling Island Vets4Pets practice marks another significant step in the journey of the Pets at Home Vet Group.

“We’re all delighted for Daniele and his team to be the 400th surgery in the group that has opened using the Joint Venture Partnership model

“It’s almost two years to the day since we opened the 300th practice in nearby Eastleigh and we find ourselves reaching another level in our quest of more than 700 practices in the UK, both in Pets at Home stores and standalone locations.

“Wherever we have opened, pet owners have responded enthusiastically to our state-of-the-art practices and convenient opening hours.

“The joint venture model we operate across all practices provides the support vets and vet nurses need to run their businesses.

“It allows them to focus on what they really love, looking after the health of animals, while the support team helps with other areas including marketing, HR and business strategy.”

Daniele qualified as a vet from Milan Vet University in his native Italy in 2001, before making the decision to move to the UK seven years later.

Daniele, who has a special interest in orthopaedic surgery, has worked for the RSPCA and a number of veterinary practices.

He is also studying for a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP) in small animal surgery with the Vet School of Liverpool.

Daniele said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to welcome my first clients through the doors and honoured to be the person who opens such a momentous practice. It’s a very exciting time for me and my team.

“I love being a vet and I’ve been working towards owning my own practice ever since I moved to the UK in 2008, and it’s great that my hard work and patience has paid off.

“After making the decision to have my own practice, the process to open it has been easy, and I’ve had brilliant support on all aspects from Vets4Pets.

“Now I’m just looking forward to welcoming pets and their owners to Vets4Pets Hayling Island and providing the highest standard of veterinary care to the area’s pets.”

The brand new high-tech practice will have three consult rooms, an operating theatre and separate cat and dog kennels; although there will be room for expansion in the future.

The new practice will create five new jobs, with another vet, two veterinary nurses and two receptionists.

Like all new Vets4Pets practices it’s fully equipped with digital X-ray facilities, an in-house laboratory, isolation units and a spacious waiting area.

To mark the occasion PLH Medical will provide the surgery with a gold x-ray machine.

Mike Jenkins, managing director at PLH Medical Ltd, said: “As a partner to the Pets at Home Vet Group from the very beginning, PLH Medical Ltd is proud to mark this special occasion by providing the surgery with a gold X-Ray machine.

“This landmark unit will also be the 1,000th Hi-Ray portable X-Ray system that we have installed in UK veterinary practices.”

The Pets at Home Vet Group operates vet practices on a joint venture basis in partnership with 375 vets and 46 veterinary nurses, who run the practices.
