Lumbry Park Referrals, one of the largest multidisciplinary hospitals in the South East, has announced the arrival of Matteo Cantatore, RCVS Specialist & EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery.

Matteo brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Lumbry Park. Having graduated from the University of Milan in 2006, he embarked on a surgical training pathway. Notably, he earned a PhD combining clinical work with research focusing on airway, urogenital, and oncological diseases in companion animals. This was followed by rotating and surgical internships, and a residency program in small animal surgery at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh. His dedication to excellence culminated in achieving Diplomate status with the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) in 2015.

Since 2020, he has honed his skills specifically in soft tissue surgery, with a particular interest in; minimally invasive surgery - offering patients faster recovery times and improved comfort; and, surgical oncology, providing advanced treatment options for complex oncological cases.

Matteo said: “Over the last few years I have invested my efforts and increased my experience in trying to offer minimally invasive options for surgical procedures that traditionally are performed via an open approach. As a result I am planning to expand the repertoire of keyhole procedures offered at Lumbry Park to include more advanced procedures in selected and suitable cases – including laparoscopic gastropexy, lap assisted gastrointestinal surgery, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, thoracoscopic pericardectomy, thoracoscopic thoracic duct ligation cystoscopic laser, ablation of etopic ureters and more.”
