Vets4Pets has announced it is opening its Academy of Learning & Development to the wider veterinary profession.

To mark the launch it hosted three free CPD sessions at the London Vet Show 2016, delivered by Dick White (clinical director of the specialist division at the Pets at Home Vet Group), David Walker (head of internal medicine at Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists) and Anne-Marie Svendsen Aylott (leadership coach and trainer at PurpleCat Coaching).

A brochure has been produced, detailing non-clinical courses such as leadership development and receptionist development, and clinical courses including ultrasound for all levels, behavioural medicine for vets and nurses, dentistry, emergency surgery and orthopaedics.

Scott Bearman-Brown, senior learning & development manager at Vets4Pets, said: “We were delighted with the response from people who attended the free CPD sessions at London Vet Show.

“Opening our courses up to everyone means we can share the significant experience of our colleagues to the wider veterinary profession and play a role in developing people’s careers.

“Courses are available in a range of locations across the UK for veterinary nurses, veterinary surgeons, practice managers, receptionists and veterinary care assistants.”

The aim of Vets4Pets’ Academy of Learning & Development is to provide solutions to everyday problems and to make it practically relevant to everyone who attends a course.

One of the new courses available is Practical Mindfulness at Work, which is increasingly bringing benefits to professionals all over the world including doctors, CEOs, and members of government.

Sharon Robbins, learning academy manager, said: “We pride ourselves on offering a wide variety of both clinical and non-clinical courses, with hands-on workshops and presentations that are delivered by knowledgeable experts.

“The clinical courses are run at top quality locations and are designed to help increase productivity, further someone’s skills base, and improve confidence with complex cases.

“Mindfulness, which is proving very popular with professionals from all sectors, is simple to learn, quick to put into practice and very powerful; it helps us to focus, make better decisions and become a better leader.

“Management and team leadership skills such as team motivation, dealing with conflict and coping with workloads are just a few areas that can make a massive difference to a team’s performance, and is why we also have courses specifically focusing on these topics.”

Dick said: “It’s fantastic to see Vets4Pets contributing to veterinary CPD. With a huge range of courses, the group will be in a position to facilitate improvement in all areas of the profession.

“The feedback from people at London Vet Show was excellent and it was great to see such enthusiasm from colleagues in the veterinary profession towards continued learning.”
