The Blue Cross pet charity has announced the appointment of a new president, Mr Tom Vyner CBE. Tom has been a member of The Blue Cross board and was an active member of the very successful fundraising committee for the new Blue Cross Victoria animal hospital. Since 2000 Tom has been an honorary Vice President of The Blue Cross and continued to give valuable support. John Rutter, chief executive of The Blue Cross, said: “We are very privileged that The Blue Cross has secured the service of a man with such an eminent career, who is passionate about animals and The Blue Cross”. Tom had a long business career at Sainsburys from which he retired as deputy chairman eight years ago. He was very influential in securing the much valued association The Blue Cross has with Sainsburys, who continue to stock the Animal Care range of pet products which bring much needed income to the charity. Out-going president, Dr Alastair Porter CBE, retired from the position on 31 December 2005. He is continuing his long association with the charity as an honorary vice president.
